Mia’s story began humbly, on the streets of Lisbon, long before she had a penthouse, a corporate title, or a dedicated member of staff. Those early days taught her the qualities that would serve her well throughout her remarkable career: independence, resourcefulness, curiosity, and a keen understanding of the world around her. She may have started life without many advantages, but Mia was clearly destined for greater things. It was only a matter of time before she moved from navigating the streets to establishing herself as the undisputed authority of a rather more comfortable headquarters.
Mia’s arrival in her new home marked the beginning of an important apprenticeship under Buddy, MIA HQ’s first COO. Under his mentorship, she learned that leadership is not simply about being in charge—it is about knowing when to observe, when to act, and when to allow another cat to believe that he is in charge. Buddy provided the experience and example from which Mia could develop her own formidable style, while she absorbed the lessons that would eventually prepare her to take on greater responsibility. His influence remained an important part of the organisation long after his tenure came to an end.
Mia’s partnership with Milo brought a new dimension to her development. Together they navigated the complex realities of running a household, requiring Mia to refine both her leadership and diplomatic skills. Milo’s more exuberant nature complemented Mia’s deliberate, thoughtful approach, and over the years she became adept at balancing authority with negotiation, knowing when to make her wishes unmistakably clear and when a quiet paw on a human wrist would achieve the desired result more effectively. Their years together helped shape the experienced leader who could manage both feline colleagues and human staff with considerable aplomb.
After 16 years of service at the highest level of MIA HQ, Mia is now looking forward to a new and rewarding chapter. As Chair of the newly rebranded MIA Lda, she can finally step back from the day-to-day operational matters and concentrate on those issues that truly deserve her attention: strategy, long-term vision, stakeholder relations, and the occasional public appearance from the penthouse. Mia can now exercise the considerable wisdom accumulated over a lifetime while leaving the routine implementation to her staff. It is, in short, a well-earned transition from
Chief Executive Officer to Chair
and from doing everything herself to making sure everyone else does it properly. 😼
